One of the most common questions from patients starting orthodontic treatment is how often they will need to come in for check-ups. The answer can vary depending on the treatment plan and the type of appliance being used, but with advances in digital technology, the process is now more flexible than ever.
Traditional Appointment Frequency
In the past, orthodontic appointments were typically scheduled every four to eight weeks. These in-person visits allowed the orthodontist to monitor progress, make adjustments and ensure everything was moving as planned.
This schedule still applies to many types of treatments, especially those involving fixed braces or more complex cases. However, things are changing for many patients, especially those using clear aligners.
Digital Monitoring with Modern Tools
At The Ortho Practice, we have embraced new technology to make orthodontic care more convenient. We use a tool called Dental Monitoring, which allows patients to scan their teeth from home using their smartphone.
This digital system tracks tooth movement remotely and sends updates directly to our team. It means we can monitor your progress without needing to see you in person as often.
Less Time in the Chair
For patients using Invisalign or other clear aligner systems, remote monitoring can significantly reduce the number of clinic visits. In many cases, we only need to see adult patients every two to three months.
This approach offers more flexibility, especially for those with busy schedules, and ensures your treatment stays on track without unnecessary appointments.
The Right Balance for Each Patient
Every patient is different, and the frequency of appointments will depend on your specific needs and the type of treatment you are receiving. Our team will work with you to create a schedule that balances personal care with the convenience of digital tools.
