my child may need braces

If you have young pre-teen or teenage children and you’re considering braces for them, there are a number of issues you need to consider carefully.

Age to start
Age can impact a number of issues, and the general rule of thumb in most cases dictates ‘get an opinion as early as possible’. This doesn’t mean get treatment early, rather get a professional observation on the developing teeth and jaw to ensure the best possible treatment when the time arises. In most cases, the observation does not attract a fee.

Baby teeth & adult teeth
Orthodontic treatment will typically be carried out when adult teeth have erupted (replaced baby teeth) so treatment is more permanent. However, some intervention can be carried out prior to or during this growth phase to minimise treatment.

Your investment
Treatment expenses will always be minimised by carrying out orthodontic treatment at the optimum time. Finding the optimum time is a case of periodic observation to assess when the teeth and jaw are ready for growth.
